When I select the paint colors that will eventually merge with the canvas, my objective is purely an intuitive process. Yes, I have a basic concept of the direction that I want to go into, but I never have a hard and fast plan. I want to see what happens and have it unfold in front of me with time.
Preferring to create images with more of a primitive direction or style with chosen simple shapes and colors, very reminiscent of the Fauvism period, with Henri Matisse being a huge influence on me.
I gravitate to simpler art expressions mainly because I feel that they allow one more allowance for interpretation. Plus, I find it very therapeutic to paint from a completely RELAXED perspective, versus forcing the result to meet a certain standard or ideal. A lot like how I see life!
Some of the aspects of my chosen artistic signature, besides what I have already explained above, are where I lean towards the brighter spectrum of colors, and use of simplistic styling. Is the much-desired incorporation of collage, and mandatory application of some sort of texture base.
In one of my first shows, I had an experience where I noticed someone from the "passerby's" had abruptly stopped, crossed the event space, and reached out to touch a piece of art that I was featuring. Most artists' would probably cringe. But for me, I was like, yes, please! That's exactly what I wanted, for someone to be so drawn to a piece, that they needed to touch it or engage with the art. That texture is part of the experience or vision that I wanted to evoke.
Emergence is 9 separate canvases, each individual canvas measures 3' x 3'. The entire collection is approximately 9' x 9'. If you noticed the pattern of 9's (9 canvases and 9' x 9') that was intentional. This particular series took 2 years to complete.
Application: Adding to the "9" theme, each canvas has 9 layers of detail.
1. Texture Application
2. Collage Application
3. Grounding - Base Painting
4. Application of Multi-Color Paint with Palette Knife
5. Adding BioGeometry Symbols:
Linear diagrams, derived from the energy patterns of body organs, can be used to balance their subtle energy. These signatures are based on the principle of Resonance of Shape.
6. Asemic Writing
7. Raised Flowers - Cherry Blossoms Application
8. Gold Outline of Blossoms and BioGeometry Shapes
9. Pink and Violet Paint Dip
Artist Perspective: This particular piece or in this case pieces, was inspired by the word emergence. Specifically, the "emergence" of the masculine and feminine energies and the needed awareness of how important it is to find the balance between them.
No matter our sexual orientation, we all have masculine and feminine energies that must have a needed balance. I've learned just recently, that a feminine forced to "feel" like she is in survival mode, places herself in her masculine energy. For me, that is not a desired feeling, nor energy I wish to have, or allude. This particular collection is my "Mae Culpa," with so much growth and awareness while creating. I am truly grateful!
